Reach trained counselors for mental health or substance use support any time. You can call, text, or chat from anywhere in the United States and receive confidential help at no cost.

Veterans and service members can choose the Veterans Crisis Line by pressing 1.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing users can connect through an ASL videophone, chat, text, or TTY via 711.

When you call, a brief menu plays, and your call is routed to a nearby center, allowing you to receive local knowledge with national standards. Language access

  • Spanish. Call 988 and press 2 for a Spanish-speaking counselor. You can also text 988 and type Ayuda or start a Spanish chat on the site.

  • American Sign Language. Connect by video with counselors in ASL through the Deaf and Hard of Hearing page on 988lifeline.org., TTY via 711

  • Other languages. Call 988 and ask for your language. Interpreters are available through Language Line Solutions in more than 240 languages. Voice calls only.
