The McLean County steering committee, which met for its plan week on June 27-28 and was led by Brian Cole, also chose ten economic development strategies on which to implement. They included attracting government funding, attracting "lone eagles", a bedroom community initiative, business recruitment, business retention and expansion, downtown development, entrepreneurial development, infrastructure development, local and regional tourism, and value added agriculture. Being a county with a high number of towns, identifying the needs of each community on a county-wide scale was a challenge. The steering committee, made up of representatives of most of the communities, was able to form a county plan identifying those needs and put together a plan to address them.
The steering committee in McLean County also planned to address eight quality of life initiatives including housing, zoning issues, child care, ambulance/emergency services, traffic and road maintenance, school impacts, a community approach to accommodating new people to the area, and meeting all health care needs in the county, including mental health care needs.
