Burke County recently became the latest county to complete its Vision West ND plan week. Steering committee members met on June 14th and 15th in Bowbells and discussed the possibility of pursuing several development strategies and quality of life initiatives.

After steering committee discussion and community input, the group selected seven strategies that will enable communities within Burke County to better handle continued growth and development. Those strategies included attracting government funding, business retention and expansion, downtown development, energy development, infrastructure development, local regional tourism, and forming a more attractive "bedroom community".

The Burke County steering committee also identified several quality of life initiatives they believed should be addressed. Among them were child care availability, the need for more recreation facilities and programs, issues being faced by fire and emergency responders, the shortage of housing, and road conditions.

Several Burke County community leaders, and steering committee members in particular, volunteered to lead the selected strategies and quality of life initiatives.
